THEORY Trailer | Season One

April 20, 2020 by Monique Constance in THEORY

Almost seven years ago, I started Black Love Project as a way to understand a freshly broken heart. I was 22 and experienced my first heartbreak at the hands of a musician (big surprise!) and I just did not know what to do with myself. I did know, however, to listen to music. That was the thing that helped me get over the pain I thought I would never get over.

The music lover and the political scientist in me began to recognize that one could understand the cultural and political movements happening in various communities in the African Diaspora - simply by listening to their music. Music is political. Music tells history and hints towards a future. For Black people it is an archive of history and the ways policies and other -'isms have affected us.

THEORY is a digital series that explores such a relationship; an examination in the interweaving of art and politics and community and culture.

Premieres 4/22/2020.
